Events at the Spirit of Peace Powwow Grounds in 2003 - 2004
(
North Hiawatha Ave, just before the old Indian school)

or at the Little Feather Indian Center, 317 4th St NE, Pipestone

1. In July and August Native American craft demonstrations will take place at the Little Feather Interpretive Center or the 'Spirit of Peace' powwow grounds, depending on the weather. If it too hot or wet they will be at the Center.

Come see how Pipes and smaller crafts are made, and watch a star quilt, or beadwork being made. Speak to the craftspeople, have a coffee, or iced tea, and enjoy the quietness that is spectacular in this part of the world. This area is Native American Sacred land and you will be able to use all of your senses to understand why.

More details will be added here as arrangements are finalized.

2. Every Saturday during July and August, (except for the last weekend in July, which is the Powwow) there will be story telling in/around a tipi at the 'Spirit of Peace' powwow grounds.

This has always been a popular event since it was started in 1993 in Pipestone. It has been presented in various places since then and now it is the turn of the powwow grounds here in Pipestone.

The story tellers have a wealth of knowledge and experiences to draw from, and everyone from the youngest child to the elders enjoy a good tale. Some of the stories are traditional, many about Coyote (come visit with Charlie Coyote!), or Iktomi, and others are more up to date, some came from the story teller's dreams and experiences, some from other story tellers. These are told with their permission, as no story belonging to another can be told without that.

The stories will begin at sundown, if the weather is wet it will be put on inside the tipi on the grounds, or at the Little Feather Center if the tipi isn't big enough.

3. INDIAN TACOS............... At the Little Feather Center, on Saturday 30th August, 2003, 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. We have had so many people coming in or phoning to ask when we were going to have our Indian Tacos on sale again. By the time the 20th person had been in we decided to put them on this week. It is short notice but you asked for them and here they are!

The Tacos will be $5 each that includes a drink as well. Coffee or juice. The tacos are large, and contain seasoned meat, lettuce, tomato, onion (if wanted) cheese, sour cream, olives and taco sauce. All of that goes on a tasty piece of the best fry bread!

JUST LIKE THIS!

A full plate of delicious food.

Come by the Center and visit for a while, sit under the awning and enjoy a Taco, then after you are rested please peruse the Indian Museum.

4. The final happening for the moment will of course be the '5th Annual Pipestone Wacipi', taking place the last weekend of July, 2004. This is a traditional Wacipi.

Host drum will again be Maza Kute, and the MC will be Perry Bob Tail Bear. The Arena director will be Bill Bird

Take a closer look at the Wacipi site HERE
